The FIQ’s 30th from the perspective of youth under 30
Union reps under 30 years old highlighted the FIQ’s 30th anniversary by reminding the delegation of the need to mobilize young healthcare professionals. The youth spoke of the union structure’s role in recruiting volunteers and giving them the floor in order to encourage them to get more involved.
They gave an overview of the history of nurses unions in Quebec, covering the founding of the FIIQ, which only represented nurses, to the evolution toward the FIQ which welcomed nurses, licensed practical nurses, respiratory therapists and clinical perfusionists. The young people are inspired by the union reps’ creative ways of coming up with pressure tactics and their ability to adapt throughout the years to defend the rights of healthcare professionals.
