Solidarity with the flood victims
Today, all my thoughts are with the victims of the many areas hit by flooding in Québec right now. I want to stress the courage of the thousands of people who have had to abandon their homes. Let’s not forget those who have decided to stay put, braving the water, the cold and the fatigue, in order to protect their belongings, often in very difficult conditions. Obviously, a person’s safety should come first, before their belongings, and I implore them to cooperate with the authorities and respect the evacuation orders.
Today, at noon, the Executive Committee decided to draw on the Solidarity Fund at the FIQ and give a donation of $10,000 to the Red Cross disaster relief campaign to help the flood victims. Moreover, they are calling on the solidarity of the healthcare professionals and ask the other labour organizations to do the same.
