Let’s commend those who bravely spoke up
Like many of our sisters all over the world, women at the FIQ have been overwhelmed by the number of stories shared on social media as part of the #MeToo movement. It is particularly striking to see just how many women in our lives have and continue to experience sexual harassment and assault. Let’s commend those who bravely spoke up. Despite all opposition, these women showed that they are survivors: their “me too” becomes “us too.” We need to seize upon the momentum of this movement of solidarity and not just return to the status quo once the hype has died down. We must continue to mobilize so that these stories aren’t forgotten. Violence against women concerns us all. We are all responsible for making it a societal concern and for it to be considered as such, we need to fight for it until the end, for however long it takes.
We are posting a list online of resources for women in situations of violence.
