Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has said over and over that there is no shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE). Therefore, healthcare professionals had all the equipment necessary to protect themselves. But what’s really been in happening in healthcare settings?

The FIQ has closely monitored the availability of personal protective equipment, i.e., N-95 and procedural masks, gowns and gloves.
Despite directives regarding prevention, protection, and implementing procedures, the government’s statements did not accurately reflect the reality in healthcare settings. Right from the start, there was a huge discrepancy between the two. The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux was announcing that there was enough protective equipment when in fact it wasn’t available, and in some places there was none at all. Moreover, that’s still the case today in several places, including CHSLDs in hot zones.
