The Health and Welfare Commissioner (CSBE) is currently holding a public consultation via a short online questionnaire about the care and services provided to seniors during the first wave of COVID-19.

The Federation is informing you of this consultation because it believes healthcare professionals should be heard on all platforms. You have until November 9 to share your point of view and ideas about how to improve the care and services. The questionnaire features two open-ended questions. Whether you are concerned about unsafe care, the lack of personal protective equipment, the impact of the ministerial orders, or anything else that you feel is relevant, this is another opportunity to communicate your concerns to the commissioner, who was appointed by the government to improve the health and well-being of the population.

The CSBE was mandated to investigate senior care and services during the COVID-19 crisis, which includes an evaluation of system performance of public health, and governance and management issues. Although it’s not a public investigation, the commissioner agreed to broadly consult all health and social service system parties, as well as the population. We believe that healthcare professionals will be able to provide very useful information for this initiative. Once organizations will be consulted on their views, the FIQ and FIQP will respond, as they did for the ombudsperson’s investigation. The results will be submitted by September 1, 2021.
