Rankings of best respiratory therapy practices
The Respiratory Therapist Tactical Committee, set up by the FIQ to find actions to help enhance respiratory therapists’ field of practice and maximize their scope of professional responsibilities, is publishing its rankings of the best respiratory therapy practices. The committee drew up an overview of the situation in Quebec based on a detailed questionnaire filled out by affiliated unions that represent respiratory therapists.
The rankings showcase settings where respiratory therapists can deploy their expertise and clinical judgement, and where protocols and collective prescriptions are set up, promoting greater professional independence and knowledge transfer among various stakeholders.
The unions received all the results and can raise awareness among employers whose practices need improving about the importance of making upgrades throughout Quebec to narrow major gaps in respiratory therapists’ independence and field of practice, according to their care setting.
In addition to drawing up an overview of best practices, the committee compiled a bank of collective prescriptions, protocols, and other clinical tools that unions can use to promote respiratory therapists’ expertise and skill development.
The FIQ and the committee see the respiratory therapy profession as a unique, essential expertise that must be tapped into across Quebec.
