As you must have heard, Julie Bouchard, FIQ President, accompanied by Jérôme Rousseau and Françoise Ramel, FIQ Executive Committee members, participated in a meeting with Premier François Legault and Conseil du trésor Chair Sonia LeBel. The goal of the meeting was to set up communication channels with the premier, which we can use for the next stages of negotiations. At this meeting, Ms. Bouchard spoke about healthcare professionals’ priorities, as well as how important it is that the premier give his negotiation team clear mandates so that negotiations can move forward efficiently.

This meeting was an opportunity for Ms. Bouchard to remind the premier that it is the healthcare professionals in the field who feel the direct impacts of his government’s decisions. It is high time that discussions focus on their solutions and that they be heard. The survival of the public health network depends on it. If Ms. Lebel and Mr. Legault would like to improve the situation for healthcare professionals and the health network, then they must first and foremost focus on improving our three negotiation priorities: salary, workload and work-personal life balance!

What is going on at the bargaining table?

This week your Negotiating Committee will have a bargaining meeting with the government. At the moment, there are only two more meetings scheduled before September. We hope to see the government keep good on its promise to advance negotiations quickly by promptly making more meeting room in its schedule, but also to shift gears at the table to focus discussions on solid solutions for us!

Until the next Info-négo, we are counting on you to talk about negotiations with your colleagues and to stay updated on your local union team’s activities: we all need to participate in the fall mobilization actions to support our Negotiating Committee. The voice of our 80,000 members will sway this government!
