The FIQ will submit its prioritized demands tomorrow
At the end of a necessary and normal exercise in the context of negotiations, the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec-FIQ will, as it announced several weeks ago, be submitting a list of adjusted demands to the representatives of the employer party tomorrow.
Although the Federation has made choices to prioritize certain demands, the essence of its demands remains the same: better salary, improved workload and better work-personal life balance.
“As far as we are concerned, very little will change. Our adjusted demands show our good faith, but we remain a very long way from an agreement. The government is offering 9% over five years as a salary increase. Furthermore, they want to remove any form of stability for healthcare professionals to treat them like interchangeable pawns. We will never accept that”, stated Jérôme Rousseau, Vice-President and joint officer for the negotiations.
On October 10 and 11, 2023, the FIQ affiliated union representatives will be meeting in a special federal council in Montréal to be briefed on the Federation’s amended demands and to express their views on them. They will also have an opportunity to vote on an upcoming strike vote.
Out of respect for its members, its delegates and its internal democracy, the FIQ will not grant any interviews before this meeting.
“Our first obligation, why we exist, is to serve our members and the delegation. Before openly talking about our adjusted demands, we need to show them to the delegation”, concluded Julie Bouchard, President of the FIQ.
