The FIQ demands of Christian Dubé that the healthcare professionals’ expertise be recognized in negotiations
Today, the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec—FIQ held a mobilization action in front of the office of the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, in downtown Montréal. This morning’s action represents the culmination of an operation over the last four weeks in which the FIQ has urged CAQ MNAs and ministers to put pressure on the government in the name of their citizens’ health. This morning, we are calling on Mr. Dubé to urge his colleagues to find solutions to settle the negotiations as quickly as possible.
The FIQ members’ working conditions are directly linked to the care conditions for Quebecers. It is the Minister of Health’s responsibility to ensure that the government’s offers significantly improve the working conditions of the Québec healthcare professionals, over 90% of whom are represented by the FIQ. The FIQ also hopes that these offers will convince the healthcare professionals who left the network to come back, and for new ones to choose the health professions. “So now that Québec is painted the colours of the FIQ: it is time for this government to walk the talk. For several years, our members have demonstrated their dedication day after day. It’s now time to recognize their expertise, and that’s why we’re asking Minister Dubé to apply some pressure so that we can sign the best agreement possible”, stated the president of the FIQ, Julie Bouchard.
Now that the other unions’ tentative agreements have been adopted, the FIQ wants to remind the employer party that the negotiations for the healthcare professionals are not over. There are still a number of important issues to agree on, and the FIQ will continue to press for an agreement, echoing the determination of its members who are demanding that things improve once and for all in the field.
